In April 2026, the global landscape was marked by an alarming presence of terrorism and extremism linked to extreme right-wing ideologies. This analysis underscores the paramount significance of this issue in the contemporary world order.

Terrorism and extremism, irrespective of their ideological roots, have long posed a grave threat to international peace and security. Recent times, however, have witnessed a distinct shift in this threat landscape. The ascent of extreme right-wing terrorism has introduced a new layer of complexity to the global security equation.

This report aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of extreme right-wing extremism in April 2026, offering insights into its evolution and current manifestations. By dissecting the trends, causative factors, and ramifications of this phenomenon, our objective is to foster awareness and inform policymaking while fostering international collaboration to counter this growing menace.

UNITED STATES

Mississippi Department of Public Safety Uncovers Rare KKK Artifacts in State Office

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety discovered a collection of Ku Klux Klan artifacts while clearing out an office for relocation to new headquarters. The items, found in a suitcase, included a White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan handbook, Klan charters, a Klan robe, recruitment materials, propaganda pamphlets, meeting notes, ledgers, and membership dues records. All materials have been transferred to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History for processing and preservation.

The discovery highlights the Klan’s documented history of violence in Mississippi, including the 1964 abduction and murder of three civil rights workers in the “Mississippi Burning killings,” the 1967 bombing of the state’s only synagogue, and decades of lynchings and church burnings. Civil rights advocates emphasize the importance of preserving these historical artifacts to prevent future generations from being led astray by such hate and to ensure law enforcement accountability regarding potential extremist sympathies (1).

Dallas Stars Ban Fan After Viral Video of Nazi Salute

A group of male Dallas Stars fans were recorded making Nazi salutes during a home game on December 21 against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the American Airlines Center. The 18-second video was originally posted on Reddit and went viral on social media, showing the fans performing the gesture in rhythm with the song ‘Puck Off’ by Pantera, which plays when the Stars score goals.

Following an internal investigation, the Dallas Stars and American Airlines Center banned the ticket purchaser from the venue indefinitely. The organization stated it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward hate acts and discrimination. The NHL code of conduct prohibits verbal expressions, gestures, conduct, clothing, banners, or personal manifestations that negatively reference or demean any race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other identity-based characteristics (2).

Trump Administration Charges NGO That Infiltrated White Supremacist Groups to Expose Them

The Trump Justice Department indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on federal fraud charges, alleging the organization improperly raised millions of dollars to pay informants within the Ku Klux Klan and other extremist groups. According to prosecutors, the SPLC deceived donors by using funds to finance activities linked to the same groups it claimed to combat, spending over three million dollars on informants through a dissolved infiltration program targeting white supremacist organizations.

The SPLC defended its informant program as essential for monitoring violent threats and sharing intelligence with authorities, stating it saved lives. Investigators revealed at least nine informants participated in the scheme since the 1980s, with one receiving over one million dollars while maintaining ties to the neonazi National Alliance, and another receiving over $270,000 while involved in organizing the ‘Unite the Right’ supremacist rally in Charlottesville in 2017 (3).

White supremacist pleads guilty to Tennessee civil rights center arson

Regan Prater, a man linked to white supremacist movements, pleaded guilty to setting a fire that destroyed an office at the Highlander Research and Education Center in New Market, Tennessee in March 2019. The fire, which caused over $1.2 million in damage, was connected to Prater through posts in white supremacist group chats and private messages where he described using a sparkler bomb and napalm. A white-power symbol was spray-painted at the scene, the same symbol later found on firearms used in the Christchurch mosque shootings two weeks prior.

Prater also pleaded guilty to attempting to aid the terrorist organization Hezbollah by providing a list of personally identifiable information for individuals affiliated with the Israeli government. Sentencing is scheduled for September 9, 2026, with a plea agreement recommending no more than 20 years imprisonment. This arrest came more than six years after the 2019 arson, and Prater had previously been sentenced to five years in federal prison for setting another fire at an adult store in 2019 (4).

UNITED KINGDOM

Neo-Nazi guilty of terror charge after MI5 sting

Alfie Coleman, a 21-year-old neo-Nazi from Essex, has been found guilty of preparing terrorist acts after an MI5 undercover operation. Coleman spent years immersing himself in extreme far-right material from age 14, compiled a list of “race traitors,” downloaded The Anarchist Cookbook, and planned attacks including explosives in cash machines, plane hijackings, and knife attacks. His targets included the Lord Mayor of London and a mosque.

Undercover MI5 officers lured Coleman into purchasing a Makarov pistol and ammunition in September 2023, arresting him immediately after he picked up the weapon from a Land Rover in a Stratford car park. Searches of his home uncovered neo-Nazi paraphernalia, knives, and a copy of Dylann Roof’s racist manifesto. Coleman admitted to attempting to possess firearms but claimed he was caught in a trap, denying he was preparing for actual terrorist attacks. He was convicted following a retrial and is scheduled for sentencing on 8 July (5).

Teen jailed for belonging to banned neo-Nazi group

A 16-year-old boy from Northumberland has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in custody, plus one year of supervision, after being found guilty of belonging to The Base, a banned neo-Nazi paramilitary group that advocates for race war and white supremacy. Counter-terrorism police raided his home in February 2025 and discovered weapons including a crossbow, knives, and a gas-powered air pistol. He was also convicted of possessing and sharing terror publications and was part of extreme right-wing online chat groups on platforms such as Telegram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Wire.

During sentencing at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Wall noted that the teenager genuinely held extremist and antisemitic views, while also acknowledging his difficult childhood marked by bullying and isolation. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a charge that he was planning a terror attack on Newcastle synagogues, and the prosecution declined to pursue a retrial. The teenager will remain subject to a criminal behaviour order restricting his computer and internet use following his release from detention (6).

MEXICO

Teotihuacán Shooter Celebrates the Columbine Massacre and Fascist Far-Right

On April 20, a 27-year-old man identified as Julio César Jasso Ramírez opened fire at Mexico’s Teotihuacán archaeological site, killing a Canadian tourist and injuring 13 others before taking his own life. Authorities discovered that Jasso Ramírez was a Hitler follower who had published Nazi salute photographs and carried materials related to the 1999 Columbine massacre, deliberately timing his attack to coincide with Hitler’s birthday and the Columbine anniversary.

The perpetrator delivered xenophobic, misogynistic, and nationalist speeches threatening European and Asian tourists, stating they would not return home. He wore clothing associated with the True Crime Community, a digital subculture that glorifies famous crimes. Authorities characterized him as having a psychopathic profile and described him as a copycat killer. The incident reflects a broader pattern of extremist violence in Mexico driven by online radicalization, distinct from cartel-related violence (7).

CZECH REPUBLIC 

German transgender former neo-nazi arrested in Czech Republic

Marla-Svenja Liebich, a convicted German transgender right-wing extremist who was formerly known as Sven, has been arrested in the Czech Republic on the basis of a European arrest warrant. Liebich had been on the run since August 2025 when she failed to appear at a prison in Chemnitz, Germany, where she was to serve an 18-month jail term. She is a former member of the neo-Nazi group Blood and Honour and is expected to be extradited to Germany.

In July 2023, Liebich was sentenced by the Halle District Court in Saxon-Anhalt to 18 months in prison for extreme right incitement to hatred, defamation, and insult. At the end of 2024, she changed her gender entry in official records from male to female and changed her first name under Germany’s Self-Determination Act. German media and officials have questioned whether her gender transition was genuine, with Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt accusing her of abusing the Self-Determination Act (8).

ITALY

17-Year-Old White Supremacist Arrested for Possession of 3D-Printed Weapon Manuals

A 17-year-old white supremacist from Sant’Egidio alla Vibrata, Italy was arrested by State Police for inciting terrorism and promoting racist propaganda. During a search of his residence, authorities confiscated electronic devices containing extensive extremist material, including detailed manuals for manufacturing firearms and semi-automatic pistols using 3D printers. The suspect possessed a 3D printer and intended to fabricate weapons following downloaded instructions. Additionally, investigators discovered guides for making Molotov cocktails and instructional videos on creating explosives.

The investigation revealed the suspect held satanic practices with references to ritual sacrifices and expressed desires to commit violent acts in the name of racial hatred and societal collapse. Most alarmingly, he made direct death threats against a specific individual on Telegram, stating he would stab them to death if he went to Bergamo. Authorities successfully prevented what could have been a serious terrorist attack through the arrest and confiscation of materials indicating planning for selective terrorist attacks (9).

New Zealand

White supremacist killer Brenton Tarrant fails to overturn guilty pleas for mosque attacks

Brenton Tarrant, an Australian white supremacist who murdered 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2019, has failed in his attempt to withdraw his guilty pleas. The 35-year-old argued that harsh prison conditions had affected his mental health and made his admission of guilt involuntary, but three judges at the Court of Appeal dismissed his claims as “utterly devoid of merit” and concluded his guilty pleas were made voluntarily and rationally.

The court found that Tarrant had not been coerced or pressured to plead guilty, and in fact had rejected his lawyers’ offer to negotiate away the terrorism charge because he wanted to be known as a terrorist. The judges stated that Tarrant’s claims of mental illness were unsupported by evidence and that he had attempted to mislead the court about his state of mind in a weak attempt to advance his appeal (10).

GRAPHICAL ANALYSIS OF FAR-RIGHT EXTREMISM IN APRIL 2026

This continued concentration reinforces the enduring relevance of digitally interconnected extremist ecosystems operating across ideologically aligned contexts.

Compared to March 2026, the geographical footprint appears slightly more contained, with fewer countries affected overall. However, the presence of incidents in countries such as the Czech Republic, Italy, and Mexico illustrates that extremist violence and radical activity continue to emerge beyond the main epicentres traditionally associated with the phenomenon. Although these incidents remain limited in scale, they highlight the persistence of underlying enabling factors such as political polarization, anti-government narratives, identity-based grievances, and online radicalization dynamics.

In April 2026, the distribution of incident types linked to right-wing extremism reflects a notable shift toward judicial and institutional responses, with trials emerging as the most prominent category. This predominance suggests that a significant proportion of extremist-related activity during the month was connected not to newly executed attacks, but to the continuation of legal proceedings associated with prior incidents, investigations, or prosecutions. The centrality of trials highlights the increasingly visible role of judicial systems in managing and responding to extremist threats over the long term.

Alongside this, legal acts also maintain a relevant presence, indicating ongoing legislative or administrative measures aimed at countering extremist activity. Meanwhile, incidents categorized as acts of violence, incitement to violence, and threats of violence remain comparatively limited but continue to demonstrate that extremist environments retain the capacity to generate both rhetorical and operational forms of hostility. These categories, although smaller in scale, remain important indicators of persistent radicalization dynamics and potential escalation risks.

In April 2026, the ideological distribution of incidents linked to terrorism and right-wing extremist violence demonstrates both continuity and diversification within the broader extremist ecosystem. Neo-Nazi ideology remains the dominant framework, accounting for the largest proportion of recorded incidents, closely followed by white supremacist narratives. Together, these two ideological currents continue to constitute the core of the contemporary extreme-right landscape, reinforcing exclusionary worldviews grounded in racial hierarchy, ethnonationalism, and identity-based hostility.

At the same time, the data reveals the sustained presence of racially motivated violence as a significant component of extremist activity, further emphasizing the centrality of identity and perceived demographic threat within radicalization processes. In addition, a broader constellation of smaller ideological categories—including antisemitism, xenophobia, anti-Islam narratives, white nationalism, nationalism, accelerationism, and even satanic-related extremism—illustrates the increasingly hybrid nature of extremist environments. Although each of these categories represents a limited proportion individually, their collective presence reflects the growing ideological fluidity characterizing online and offline radical ecosystems.
